Ducks Roster Roundup: 3/4/2020

Long Island has secured the return of two veteran leaders for the 2020 campaign.

Vin Mazzaro

MLB veteran righty Vin Mazzaro will be spending his age-33 season with Long Island now that he has re-signed with the Ducks for 2020. At this time, we’re projecting Mazzaro as a starter after his late-season dominance last year. After moving into the rotation from the bullpen on July 24, Mazzaro posted an 8-0 record, a 2.15 ERA, and a 3.8 K/BB while averaging just under six innings per outing. With that production, the Ducks may find Vin as a better-than-league-average number two starter for Long Island in 2020.

Projections: 81 IP, 3.25 ERA, 1.290 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9, 7.3 K/9

High-end Projections: 109 IP, 2.25 ERA, 1.085 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, 8.0 K/9

Low-end Projections: 76 IP, 3.30 ERA, 1.520 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9, 6.9 K/9

Daniel Fields

The Ducks have re-signed outfielder Daniel Fields. In Daniel’s first three seasons in the Atlantic League, two of which were with Long Island, he slashed a respectable .269/.353/.453. However, in 73 plate appearance against lefties in 2019, Fields struggled his way to a .090 batting average. Expect Daniel to serve as a platoon player in 2020.

Projections: 305 PA, 37 Runs Created, 9 HR, .715 OPS, 1.5 WAR (MLB Equiv. Kike Hernandez)

High-end Projections: 340 PA, 43 Runs Created, 11 HR, .755 OPS, 2.0 WAR

Low-end Projections: 230 PA, 29 Runs Created, 7 HR, .675 OPS, 1.0 WAR
