Javier Betancourt is heading back to the Sugar Land Skeeters for a 3rd season. Re-signing with the club Wednesday, Betancourt is expected to continue finding time in the Skeeters’ middle infield rotation. In his 103 appearances with Sugar Land, Javier has slashed .214/.266/.262 with 20.5 runs created.
Betancourt’s projection considers that his age-25 season will be his 3rd facing ALPB-level pitching, as well as his improved numbers while seeing increased playing time in September (.259/.306/.344 with 5.4 runs created). If these trends continue, Betancourt projects to be a .245/.267/.292 hitter. If he can work his way into the lineup 70 times, Betancourt could reasonably double his offensive production for the Skeeters. While these projections will like change as the Skeeters continue building their infield, Javier seems to have found favor with manager Pete Incaviglia at the end of 2019. Sugar Land is counting on those late-season developments being a sign of things to come in 2020.
